The Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad is the primary emergency medical services organization serving Chestertown and surrounding areas. We are primarily a volunteer organization with approximately 45 volunteer members. Additionally we have 1 paid member who was hired by the organization to help us meet our commitment of service to the community during weekday daytime hours when many of our members are at work and unavailable to respond.
Our membership shows a diversity that in many ways is representative of our rural community. As might be expected we have members who work in the medical field as paramedics, EMT's, nurses, and even a physician. The passion these members have for providing care extends from their regular jobs to the volunteer service they provide the community. In addition we are made up of businessmen and women, teachers and students , skilled trades workers, law enforcement officers, and retirees all serving together for the company and the community. Many of our members are active in other volunteer fire or EMS services in the area and of course anyone with a desire to serve the community and help us meet our mission is welcome.
The Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad Officers and Board of Directors for 2008 are:
Chief: Allan Schauber, EMT-B
Captain: Eric Jackson, EMT-P
1st Lieutenant: Travis Nelson, EMT-B
2nd Lieutenant: Alex Dolgos, EMT-B
Treasurer: Jim Johnson, EMT-B
Secretary: Terry Waldspurger, EMT-P
Past Chief: Bill Lobley, EMT-B
Classes of Membership:
Active Members- The only member category with voting rights and the right to hold an elected office. Active members must be at least 18 years old and commit to responding to a minimum of 10% of the total calls for the year, attend 6 meetings per year, and complete a minimum of 12 hours per year training or alternatively accumulate 120 points by performing collateral duties, serving on night crews, training, standbys etc. . In order to avoid potential conflicts of holding office or voting in more then 1 company, Active members are not permitted to be members of any other fire or EMS company in Kent County.
Associate Members - A member who holds dual membership in the Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad and one or more other Kent County fire or EMS company. We have many associate members in our ranks and their contribution to the company as drivers or providers is crucial to achieving our mission. With the exception of voting rights associate members have all rights and priveleges of active members.
Washington College Members - This category is an opportunity for students of Washington College, a 4 year liberal arts college and neighbor in our community, to get involved in EMS and the community. It is a point of pride for the Rescue Squad that many of our Washington College members have used this experience as a starting point to careers in medicine as Paramedics, Physician Assistants, and Medical Doctors.
Junior Members - A member who is at least 16 but less then 18 years of age. Junior members do not have voting rights and must have parental permission to join.
Auxiliary Members - Members with special qualifications who may be of service to the Rescue Squad but may not participate on a regular basis
Career Service Member - Currently we have only one Career Services Member which is the only paid position in our company. As our call volume rose the company felt it was necessary to hire someone to help us meet our commitment to the community during weekday daytime hours when many of our members are at work and unavailable to respond.
