The Kent and Queen Anne's Rescue
Squad is located in historic
Chestertown on Maryland's scenic
eastern shore. From its modest
beginnings in 1961 when one
vehicle and a handful of
volunteers ran 73 calls to 2008
when our volunteers responded to
1296 calls, the Kent and Queen
Anne's Rescue Squad is the
primary ambulance organization
in Chestertown and outlying
rural areas. Volunteers are of
all ages and come from all walks
of life; most have extensive
training and experience in the
emergency medical services. Many
members are also trained in
firefighting, hazardous
materials operations, rescue
operations, dispatch, and scuba
diving. The Rescue Squad's
current fleet includes three
ALS-equipped ambulances, one
rescue truck, two boats, a
special operations trailer, an
all-terrain vehicle, two utility
vehicles, and an ALS equipped
chase vehicle. The spirit of the
Kent and Queen Anne's Rescue
Squad is alive and well in its
volunteers, who selflessly
dedicate countless hours in
service to their community. |

Volunteers
Participate In
Several Event
Stand-By's In
Chestertown |
|
|
November 2, 2011 -
Each year, the Rescue Squad is
asked by numerous organizations
to provide volunteers and
equipment for event stand-by's
in the Chestertown area.
Recently we have attended three
5k + races and a triathlon held
at Wilmer Park. In addition,
every Sunday we provide an
ambulance stand-by at the
Nicholson Speedway in our first
due. Thank you to the members
who have dedicated their time to
assist these organizations. |

September 10, 2011 -
Approximately 30 members
attended this year's summer
picnic held at the station on
Saturday. This is a way for the
organization to thank our
volunteer members for the
thousands of man-hours that they
put fourth each year into
training, meetings, calls for
service and community events.
During the picnic, Station 8
members handled 3 medical
emergencies. |

New Stryker
Stretchers Placed In
Service On All Units |
|
|
August 25, 2011 -
The Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue
Squad has placed in service new
Stryker Power-PRO XT emergency
cots on all three ambulances.
These battery-operated cots
feature a hydraulic lift system
to raise and lower patients with
the touch of a button, reducing
the strenuous lifting that is
associated with back injuries.
The new cots are identical and
replace three older, and
individually different Ferno
cots. More information on these
cots can be seen on Stryker's
website. |

New EMS Support
Vehicle Has Arrived |
|
|
June 27, 2011 -
The Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue
Squad placed an order earlier
this year for a 2011 Chevrolet
Tahoe to replace the current EMS
8-10, a 1999 Dodge Durango. The
vehicle arrived in Chestertown
in mid-June, after it was
outfitted with emergency
lighting, a radio console and
rear command module. Chester
Sign Company completed the
striping and lettering. The unit
will be designated as EMS-8, and
will be utilized by members and
career staff to supplement
ambulance staffing, routine
daily activities and as a
take-home vehicle for volunteer
ALS providers, to decrease
response times. EMS-8 will be
placed in service this week,
after inspection by MIEMSS. |

KQARS Members
Provide EMS Coverage
For Chestertown Tea
Party |
|
|
May 28, 2011 -
On
Saturday, approximately 20
volunteer members of the Kent &
Queen Anne's Rescue Squad
provided EMS coverage for the
Town of Chestertown's annual
"Tea Party" festival and events.
Volunteers staffed 3 ATV's, an
ALS ambulance, Boat 8 and the
special operations trailer which
was designated as the command
post for the event. Due to the
large crowds, personnel were
also on foot with medical
supplies for a quicker initial
response. Crews evaluated
numerous patients throughout the
day, though only one resulted in
a transport. Boat 8 & Boat 81
also were in the water with
divers during the events at the
town dock. Station 8 remained
staffed with 2 ambulance crews,
handling several outside calls.
On Sunday, Boat 81 & Ambulance 8
stood-by for the raft races at
the Washington College Boat
house. Thank you to all members
that assisted with another busy
tea party weekend. |
